Official vs. Unofficial Scores
Every analyst score on MockDraftScores is labeled Official or Unofficial (marked with an asterisk * in leaderboard tables). The label tells you where the number came from — not how it was calculated. Both use the same scoring methods.
Official
Unofficial
Why unofficial scores can be trusted
Unofficial scores are computed from public, timestamped mock drafts— typically final pre-draft mocks archived by NFL Mock Draft Database or published on the analyst's own site before the draft. Because the source mock is public and locked in time:
- The picks can never be tampered with after the fact — by the analyst or by us.
- Anyone can verify the score independently — every analyst profile links the source mock, and the scoring rules are documented on the scoring page.
- Scored years include a pick-by-pick breakdown page showing how every pick earned its points — hover over any pick's score for the exact explanation.
- It's the same engine that scores your own mock — analysts and users are graded identically.
How the labels appear across the site
- Unofficial scores are labeled (Unofficial) wherever they appear — unmarked scores are official.
- Leaderboard tables mark unofficial scores with an asterisk * and dim them slightly.
- Rankings mix official and unofficial entries by score — the marks make the distinction, and the leaderboard filters let you view official-only standings at any time.
- Yearly champions are always crowned from official scores only.
- MDS scores analyst mock drafts from 2021 onward — earlier seasons aren't tracked, official or otherwise.
Accuracy disclaimer
Our implementations are calibrated against thousands of officially published scores, but on occasion a computed score may not perfectly match what an outlet would have awarded — outlets sometimes grade a different version of an analyst's mock than the one published publicly, or use internal data (such as player position designations) that isn't public. If you find an error, contact us and MockDraftScores will correct it immediately.
